Why I created Measure of Creation: A Gentle Invitation to Slow Down
A Quiet Beginning
I’ve always been drawn to tangible, tactile things — books, letters, scribbled notes — so the idea of creating a physical publication felt natural, maybe even inevitable. For a few years now, I’ve dreamed of making a seasonal zine — something filled with art, photography, musings, creativity, nature, and faith. I could see it so clearly in my mind and quietly tucked it onto my “someday” list.
But earlier this summer, I realized… why wait? Who says I have to? So I began creating Measure of Creation — launching it as a free digital zine, with dreams of printing it one day.
Why I Created a Seasonal Zine
Truthfully, I’ve grown tired of consumption and hustle. I wanted to create something slower, more intentional — and, yes, eventually something you could hold in your hands. I wanted it to feel like an invitation to slow down with me. To notice the world. To try new things. To honour God’s gifts to us.
This zine gives me space to explore other pieces of myself — writing, photography, baking, and cooking — alongside painting. And because I deeply believe in living seasonally, I wanted it to reflect that rhythm, too. Not with pressure or perfectionism, but with gentle encouragement and joy.
What You'll Find Inside Each Issue
Each issue includes:
- a seasonal recipe
- seasonal photographs
- reflections on faith, joy, and nature
- and a high-resolution printable piece of my artwork –– ready to add to your home in a simple, beautiful way.
I’m intentional about what I bring into my own home, and I love swapping out art prints with the seasons. So I wanted to offer that joy to you, without any pressure to buy more things or chase trends — just a quiet, lovely piece of art to welcome the season in.
I didn’t want to add to the noise — I wanted to offer a pause. A breath. A moment of beauty, reflection, and faith.
A Reflection of My Creative Heart
Everything in Measure of Creation is deeply personal: the photographs are of scenes that have brought tears to my eyes. The painting is something that stayed on my heart until I put it on paper. The recipe is one I’ve grown up loving or carefully reworked. The reflections are a mirror of what I’m walking through. Even the hand lettering is mine.
My hand is everywhere in Measure of Creation — and I hope, when you read it, you feel still. I hope it invites you to find more creativity, connection, and joy in your own life — whether that’s through trying a recipe, shifting a perspective, or pausing to take in the beauty around you.
